50 people who attended the first Aging Wisely seminar, designed to show how to spot con-artists, scams and prevent becoming a victim - 12/12/14
It happened to Floyd Watson once and that was one time too many. In May during a trip north with his wife, Mary, the Avon Park resident and retired account manager stopped in Virginia to use his credit card at a gas pump. By the time he returned to Florida, he realized his credit card information had been stolen and it was used four times for about $300 in unauthorized charges.
So Tuesday, Watson and his wife were two of about 50 people who attended the first Aging Wisely seminar, designed to show how to spot con-artists, scams and prevent becoming a victim.
Sponsored by the Florida Crime Prevention Association and the Highlands County Seniors and Law Enforcement Together Council, the thee-hour seminar was organized for attendees to “learn how to fight back and spot the crooks before they spot you,” according to the event flyer.
